RENOVATED HISTORIC CHURCH 2 BR, 1 BA Maximum Occupancy:6
457 County Hwy 40
Worcester, NY 12197 COOPERSTOWN REGION
Description:
This historic church was almost moved to the Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, but luckily remained in South Worcester, where it is now part of a National Register Historic Landscape District. From the road it appears to be a vintage Greek Revival church. At the back, glass doors lead to a large flagstone terrace with views of the hillside and valley. All of the other houses on the road have also been restored, making for lovely walks and the relaxing experience of being surrounded by nature and history.
The interior was renovated by an architect/artist couple and is loft-like, with spaces flowing from front-to-back and from downstairs to upstairs via large glass doors and an atrium that connects the levels. The kitchen is fully equipped. There is one downstairs bedroom and two additional double beds at the front of the upper level. A sleeper sofa in the living area can sleep two more if necessary. There is a large studio space upstairs, with a huge north-facing window, and an additional sitting/TV area. The acoustics are excellent if you or your friends are musicians.
There are two wood stoves, one upstairs and one downstairs, as well as auxiliary electric heat. The rear area downstairs can be closed off with double glass doors and makes a very cozy spot for sitting and reading. There is an outdoor fireplace with “tuscan” grill for summertime barbecues. This a great house for relaxing, for working, and for entertaining. Tables and chairs and dinnerware can easily accomodate up to 16 for dinner. A beautiful inn across the street can be booked for overflow guests, and Cooperstown is about one half hour away over scenic rural highways.
